The Solution

Budget Dry Deep - Channel Pressure Relief System

The infiltration of water into a basement is generally caused by ruptures in the foundation at the junction of the wall, floor and footing. If you live in damp climates or ones with severe weather, as we have in New York and Connecticut, your home could be especially susceptible to these foundation ruptures. The ruptures are usually a result of hydrostatic pressure resulting from a high water table. The only effective way to relieve the pressure and to stop water infiltrating is by installing the Budget Dry Deep-Channel Pressure Relief System.

Typically, the installation process is as follows:

1.  The inside perimeter of the floor is cut about one foot from the wall. Sections of the floor are left intact and tunneled under, retaining the structural integrity of both the floor and the walls. A trench is excavated that is pitched towards the sump pit(s).

2.  The lowest course of block is drilled at every core pocket to release and remove the entrapped water. For a poured concrete foundation, a keyway is drilled at regular intervals to release this buildup of pressure.

3.  A 4" perforated ADS pipe is laid in the trench and pitched down towards the sump pit(s). This self-cleaning pipe is set in a bed of gravel. A layer of polymeric drain tile is laid over the trench and up the wall. The drain tile allows air to flow under the floor and into the walls, allowing for the natural drying of the foundation.

4.  The floor is re-cemented to its original level over the drain tile, exerting pressure against the wall and thereby adding stability to the foundation walls.

5.  To discharge the water collected through the drains, a submersible sump pump is installed in each sump pit.

Interior Water Management

There are many different forms of interior systems. The most commonly known form is the French Drain. An Interior Water Management System focuses on relieving the pressure that water exerts on your foundation. This will stop seepage from both the walls and the floor as well as prevent cracking of both services. This form of waterproofing is not suitable to all homes, and it is important that an expert examine your foundation to see what, if any, interior system will work for you.

Outside Excavation

This process is what is known as "True Waterproofing." It involves digging around your foundation and reapplying the waterproofing membranes that have broken down over time. Though it may sound simple, we suggest you read the related articles in the [Research] section because this work is typically very costly, and if not done properly, it can be very dangerous.

Wall/Floor Cracks

Depending on the nature of your foundation, a crack might simply be just a crack. Rather than try to sell you some expensive and unnecessary repairs, we are prepared to address your concern-a crack that is unsightly in your basement. It is important to first determine why the crack formed. It is a result of pressure, but that can be pressure due to the effects of groundwater or simply the result of pressure from the weight of your home. Our inspector will determine the source of the problem and advise the best way to correct it. You might even be able to fix it yourself!

Sump Pump Installation

Sump pumps are like tires on your car-over time they can wear out. Unfortunately, Murphy's Law often causes your sump pump to fail at the worst of times. Have no fear, though. Our emergency response team can come out and install a new pump the same day you call! If you want to install a sump pump system in your home, we can take care of that as well. Just give us a call or fill out the form on our Contact Us page. One of our qualified team members will answer all of your questions.
